Fresh starts. Starting the year with 180 turns and an eBay’s worth of linen swishy things. For me, luckily, years ago I worked out that ‘The new year doesn’t start until the 1st of March’. It always has in recent years for me—the 1st of March, Autumn. Mainly because summer is ridiculously busy, and I think it’s easy looking back to confirm that this summer is the busiest I’ve ever had in Tasmania.

EVER. Period.

Been working on socials for the new Six Russells in Sandy Bay - the bakery has been open for a few months and the Bisto is opening this week or so which is really really exciting.

But what’s totally undeniable is that I’m so glad I’m driving north to work instead of south each week. I should have ripped off that bandaid & done that sooner.

Linen.

After seven years of wearing a Parks & Wildlife uniform, I suddenly realised my everyday wardrobe was nearly empty. So, in a late-night eBay spree, I stocked up on second-hand linen dresses, tops, and skirts. I love op-shopping, but it’s hit or miss, and with life so busy (and my pastry intake high with ), my options had seriously dwindled. And yes eBay costs a bit more than a ‘opshop win’ but it’s hell much easier and quicker to find what I need. I search by brands and just tag everything I like the look of. Usually if something is passed up the seller sends you a better offer. That’s when I say Yes - if I want it. Usually about 10-20% of its retail value.

Side note—if you’re in Hobart, apart from the fantastic opshops there is a great second-hand recycling shop called Goodbyes, right in the center of town across from Pigeonwhole Cafe Bakers. It’s a bit pricier than your typical op shop, with most items in the $20–$40 range, but they are great finds, including really good-condition branded pieces. Roughly a 1/5/ or 1/4 of their full price cost? Plus, what I love, if you’ve got quality clothes you no longer need, you can resell them there and make a few dollars back

Found these Doc Martins in size 42… going to flip them. In good nick + a steal at $18 from the Opshop - thought I could get away with wearing them - but they are frankly too big. Shame, as I really really love the colour & wear.
