Workshop FIFO Month.
After last weeks deep dive, working out a life bucket list, I’ve decided that there is now no time to waste with bugger all years left so I’ve thrown caution to the wind and jumping in to everything.
This week marks my self-proclaimed "Travel-around-Australia-teaching-Instagram-Reels-month". Yep, diving right in!
Instagram has been evolving, and many are unsure of its direction. Recently, a podcast by The Economist explored how TikTok has gained massive influence by curating content based on user preferences, while Instagram has been struggling to keep up. As a fan of the podcast, I was intrigued by the crossover between finance and social media, and how video has shaped the landscape.
In an attempt to mimic TikTok's success, Instagram has been pushing for more video content on its platform. While some, like myself, enjoy creating and experimenting with videos, others find it challenging. I received inquiries from people seeking help with their accounts, which led me to develop a basic course on creating reels that has gained popularity. Each workshop is different, constantly adapting to the changing landscape.
I enjoy conducting workshops across the country, connecting with fellow Instagram users and exploring different cities. Despite occasional criticism about the low cost of my workshops, I strive to offer value to my attendees, just as I appreciate value myself.
As we head into winter, I will be taking a brief break after conducting workshops in Queensland and Sydney. Future workshop dates are yet to be confirmed, but I am considering scheduling them during deep winter for brief sunshine escapes. There are still a few spots available for the current workshops for those interested in attending. Tickets here
During a recent breakfast catchup in Hobart, I observed the diverse demographics of different generational groups within my friends, such as millennials. According to the Pew Research Center, millennials currently fall within the age range of 26 to 43- the ones that are coined to the the main adopters of video . I am looking forward to my next workshop in Melbourne in a few days time with Lynda Gardener, a renowned stylist and designer, as it will be a fascinating collaboration with individuals from different generational groups, including baby boomers, Generation X (myself), and millennials. The workshop aims to simplify the process of creating video content without the need for extensive photography knowledge, which I believe resonates with my target market. ( and I’m getting my hands on Lyndas book ‘Curate’ - a Mother’s Day gift to Sarah, so I can get some styling gold into my own life!)
Following the workshop in Melbourne, I will be flying to Perth to teach another Reels workshop in my hometown of Fremantle at the Old Courthouse. I am rather excited to connect with Generation Y and millennial participants, and it promises to be super fun. I’m refreshing my “Gallup Strength test” results with my old teacher Belle as apart of getting down to working out what makes me tick . I also have a catch-up planned for my 30-year school reunion, with my boarding school mates - which is wild to think about.
Anyway, I will follow up with more about my recent bucket list adventures and a few dates in the future worth noting down, in another post in a few days.
Cheers for now!
